Kalu denies Facebook account used to dupe businessman

Eminent businessman and former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has denied ownership of a Facebook account allegedly used to swindle a businessman, Alhaji Ibrahim Oleka.

In a statement issued by the former governor and signed by his Special Assistant, Mr. Peter Eze, he had no link with the contentions account allegedly used to defraud the victim.

He added that apart from the fact that he had left government service since 2007, he had not also engaged in business discussion on Facebook.

According to the statement, Kalu explained that he was aware that fraudsters had opened more than 20 Facebook accounts in his name to defraud unsuspecting people.


The statement reads: “It was also brought to our notice that some hackers opened 20 different accounts of Facebook in Orji Uzor Kalu’s name and was using the various accounts for fraudulent activities and to dupe unsuspecting innocent Nigerians.

“The latest to our notice is one Alhaji Ibrahim Oleka who laid complaints of being duped a large sum of money for a government contract as discussed through a Facebook account bearing Orji Uzor Kalu.

“We wish to state that Dr Orji Uzor Kalu has not been in active government service since 2007 and has not had anything to do with issuing government contract.


Kalu has only one Facebook account, which he uses to operate social activities and not business.”

Dr. Kalu said he had made personal report to the management of Facebook but fake accounts had continued to prop up in his name.

“We therefore urge the public to be wary of such fake accounts and beware of falling for a victim.”
