How South-East APC Leaders secured release of Nnamdi Kanu - APC Chieftain reveals

Biafra APC South-East
The All Progressive Congress(APC) south east caucus, has attributed the release of the IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu to the efforts made by the party leadership.

Speaking to our correspondent via telephone, an APC chieftain who wished to remain anonymous said " you would recall that Orji Uzor Kalu was the first to reach out to Nnamdi at Kuje prison, subsequent meeting was held behind-the-scenes with the president on the same issue. You would also recall that last month, Rochas Okorocha held a meeting with the south east governors and promised to get Nnamdi Kanu released in the shortest possible time.

The south east leadership of the party also wrote to the presidency insisting that the release of Nnamdi Kanu was a necessary condition if the party must make in-way into the south east. The presidency listened and got the south east APC leaders and few other leaders from the south east to the table to begin the political negotiations that led to his release"

Speaking further, he said " you see people expect us to act like all these political redundant individuals who seek to rejuvenate their fast dwindling political profile by exploiting the Igbo sentiment. At APC south east, we are first Igbo's before any other thing. Our duty is to protect the Igbo interest in the party.

We believe this interest is delicate and paramount. It's not what we come to the media every day to seek popularity with. We work off camera- like we just did on the Nnamdi Kanu's release, seeking the general interest of the Igbo's.

We don't need to make politics out of it. It's shameful to trivialize important issues important to the Igbo's for politics"

When asked on the party's position on the IPOB and Biafran agitation the chieftain had more to say " you see, the IPOB members are our children, we understand their agitation. Don't forget that the APC is the only party in Nigeria with true federalism and restructuring in their manifesto.

I can assure you that once we achieve stability in the economy, we would move to restructuring. IPOB has a lot to gain once the country is restructured but they can't gain if they don't join a platform. And the APC remains the only platform that can safeguard their ideals because it's already in our constitution.

So I encourage the IPOB members to migrate to APC and channel their grievances through the party.

The government can only listen to their agitation if channelled through a political party- A party that has enough members in the national assembly to get their ideals on the table. Catalonia is a quick example.

Their agitation will bear more fruits if channeled through a political party than through street protest and the APC is the only platform who can help them achieve their agitation. I believe the agitation is more about equality and restructuring. This is exactly what the APC stands for, so we are one"
