South-East governors set to meet Buhari over Nnamdi Kanu's release

The South-East Governors’ Forum has revealed its plans to meet with the Presidency, to discuss the possible release of detained leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

In a meeting yesterday at Enugu Government House, the governors said they intend to discuss in the proposed meeting with the presidency include matters concerning pro Biafra groups like the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), IPOB as well as ecological problems affecting the zone.

Chairman of Southeast Governors’ Forum and governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, who briefed newsmen at the end of the meeting, said, “today, the governors of the South-East agreed to meet with the various and appropriate authorities of he federal government to discuss the issue of IPOB, MASSOB and Nnamdi Kanu’s detention.

“We also intend to discuss ecological problems in the South-East, issues of various water dams that have been abandoned in the zone, our challenges of power, security and other concerns of our people. We are very committed to this and actions have already commenced on these issues.

“Today, we discussed a number of issues, but lets first announce to you that our secretariat, here, in Enugu, is now fully functional, so if you have a need to contact the south-east governors’ forum, you do that through our secretariat. Fortunately, it is also in Enugu Government House,” Umahi said.

He also disclosed that South-East governors agreed to meet with all stakeholders in the zone “to discuss and address all issues that are of interest to our people.”

“We approved two representatives for each State in the economic committee of south-east governors, and we have mandated them to, immediately, meet and fashion out a roadmap towards our economic integration.
This will be done in coming weeks, so they will present a road map for our economic indices and development in our next meeting.”

Those at the meeting were Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, Governor Willy Obiano of Anambra, Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo and Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu was the only governor absent, although the governors said his flight was delayed.
