JUST IN: CLO to Probe Serving, Past South-East Governors on Stewardship

L-R: Obiano, Okorocha, Umahi and Ugwuanyi (Others)
The Anambra State governor, Willie Obiano, and four other serving governors in the Southeast Geo-political zone, have been asked to account for their stewardship or be dragged to court.

Aloysius Attah, chairman of Southeast Zone of foremost civil and human rights group, Civil Liberties Organization, CLO, made this call at its Zonal Management Committee meeting in Onitsha, Anambra State, April 9, where it addressed issues in the Southeast Zone.

The group which also extended the call to former governors of the zone, said the leaders owed the citizens a duty to be accountable at all times.

‘We have resolved to say that “Enough is Enough”. Starting from Anambra State whose guber election is slated for this year, we are poised to critically engage government through all the ingredients of civil society participation which includes advocacy, litigations, protests, rallies, etc.,’ the chairman of CLO, Alloy Attah, said.

According to him, the group would be relying on the Freedom of Information Act to request a full disclosure of the financial accruals and expenditures of the governments of the five Southeast states under the tenures of both serving and former governors, failing which CLO would drag the governors to court to achieve that.

It said the public need to know the actual security votes collected by each of the serving and former governors of the zone and how it was expended.

It also included the retirement allowance of each governor , serving or former, how much were their actual entitlements as governors and how much had been spent in what the group called the illegal office of the First Lady, despite their denial of funding such office and its pet projects.
