Orji Uzor Kalu: “The Nduziological Personified” |- By Iheanacho Nwachukwu Kalu

The word “nduziology” would be best understood and appreciated going by its etymological point of view. Thus, etymologically the word “nduziology” is derived from two lingua-cultures namely – Igbo and Greek. The word “nduziology” comes from the Igbo lingua-cultural origin of “Nduzi” where it connotes “to lead”. Therefore, in this context “nduzi” could imply “leading or to lead”. The word “logy” on the other hand is of Greek origin “λόγος” or logos in literally English language which translates to “science”, “discourse” or “systematic study”. Hence, nduziology could simply be a systematic study or the science of leadership.

Having comprehended what nduziology is all about, it is not a gain saying that Nigeria as a country indeed needs nduziology in her educational curriculum. This is based on the rationale that ignorance of nduziology especially among the aristocratic elites will inevitably lead to maladministration. Little wonder, especially in Africa, we have chronicles of rulers (Ndi ochichi) dotted here and there instead of leaders (Ndi ndu). Rulers (Ndi ochichi) on one hand produce bad governance, while leaders (Ndi ndu) produce the best of governance.

In this country known as Nigeria, we need a leader (Onye ndu) and not rulers (Ndi ochichi) as we have been enduring in the time past. Since independence in 1960, it has been a game of rulers (Ndi ochichi) transiting to and in every political dispensation.

However, Nigeria and Nigerians globally need to thank God for raising even from among them an “Onye ndu” – a Leader. This leader is not just a leader rather a visionary leader. A leader that leads with example. He is a patriot. One who leads and others have no alternative than to follow joyfully. This icon is a team player cum maker; a leader with a difference. He is a philosophical leader; a divinely sent leader to our generation and a missionary known as – DR. ORJI UZOR KALU (MON), the hope of the future Nigeria.

Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu (MON) is a free citizen of Nigeria, born about five decades ago. His nativity took place during the nduziological epoch in Nigeria. I said this because in the very year 1960, the British rulers (Ndi ochichi) lowered the Union Jack and bestowed power to Nigerians to “nduzilise” (lead) their brothers and sisters. It was in this nduziological year that this great nduziological personality in the person of ORJI UZOR KALU – OUK came into this planet with this mandate of nduziology.

In his growing up days, the environment of nduziology did not elude him at any point in time. Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu attended the prestigious Christ the King School, Aba. He is an old boy of the legendary Government College, Umuahia. He is an alumnus of both Berewa College, Zaria and the great University of Maiduguri. Suffice it to note that he was even a student activist during his school days, all thanks to the in-born attributes of nduziology which abhors marginalization, injustice, greed, rancour, tribalism, nepotism and other social and political vices.

Orji Uzor Kalu commenced his business empire like the biblical proverbial mustard seed. He borrowed a little sum from his mother. With this borrowed sum, Orji Uzor Kalu ventured into palm oil business. He was seen buying palm oil from the Eastern part of Nigeria and selling them at the Northern part of the country. With the aid of his nduziological/business acumen, Orji Uzor Kalu graduated from the sale of palm oil to reselling pieces of furniture. The business which commenced in a small scale as the proverbial mustard seed later grew into a real business empire, all thanks to the nduziological characters cum attributes inherent and innate in him.

Presently, among other positions Orji Uzor Kalu is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SLOK Holdings – a conglomerate comprising giant successful companies in Nigeria and in diaspora. Under the SLOK Holdings, are companies like – Ojialex Furniture Company, The Sun Newspapers, SLOK Airlines, Supreme Oil Nigeria Limited, The New Telegraph, SLOK Ghana, Togo, Cotonou, Guinea to mention but a few.

Just by the way but also worthy of note, Orji Uzor Kalu was the youngest Nigerian to receive the National merit award from President Ibrahim B. Babaginda at the age of twenty-six (26) in the year 1986. OUK as he is fondly called had been the Chairman of Bornu Water Board and Chairman of the then Co-operative and Commerce Bank.

Along the political corridors, the nduziological achievements of Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu can never be erased for he has made some notable nduziological marks in the sands of time and he is still building an nduziological political colony. It might interest you to note that OUK was the executive governor of Abia State for a consecutive period of eight years (8) under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

During his tenure as the executive governor of Abia State between May 29th 1999 – May 29th 2007, Orji Uzor Kalu literally constituted Abia State into an nduziological environment, where a lot of rulers (Ndi ndu) were produced under his tutelage via his exemplary life. Because of his nduziological manner of governance as the executive governor of Abia State, Abians enjoyed unprecedented peace, progress and sustainable infrastructural and human developments.

Orji Uzor Kalu’s political contributions did not end there, he went as far as founding and registering a National political party known as Progressive People Alliance (PPA) in July 2007. Among other objectives of founding this political organum, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu wanted to inculcate to the National level the spirit of nduziology in Nigeria.

Taking a philosophical look at Nigeria and her political, economic and social cum ethical landscapes; it suggests a profound yearning for this nduziological persona; a man who would bring back hope to the Nigerian hoi-polloi, a man whose antecedents’ project into a great nduziological hope for an average Nigerian.  This is a man whose eventual acceptance to serve Nigeria at the presidential level will inevitably restore the unity, glory and honour of this great Nation.

We the nduziological community – a Pan Nigerian group which cut across the length and breadth of this great Nation, therefore; at this crucial dispensation place a clarion call to you – DR. ORJI UZOR KALU (MON) to come to the aid of Nigeria cum Nigerians.
