BREAKING: Army confiscate, beat up Biafran newspaper vendor, readers in Aba


A report reaching Abacityblog this morning has it that soldiers from 144 Battalion, which is under Ohafia 14 Brigade, camping at Ngwa High School, Aba confiscated a newspaper shop, beat up the vendor and the standby readers.

The incident took place around 9:am yesterday morning, at a popular newspaper stand at MCC Junction, Abayi Aba opposite First-bank.


The vendor who spoke with Abacityblog under condition of anonymity narrates how they beat him up for selling a Newspaper containing Biafran news.

He said; "they drove in with their Hilux, started beating up anybody seen around reading a Biafran newspaper, they scattered my newspapers, seized any paper contained a Biafran news, beat-up the standby readers, and made away with the Biafran newspaper they laid their hands on.

Narrating further, he said this is not the first time this incident has happened, pointing out the one that took place in March last year (2016).

When Abacityblog visits the place this morning, the number of the standby readers reduced, as many were afraid that they may come back to search of Biafran newspapers.


The vendor regretted why this kind of action by the Nigerian Army, why would they beat up people for reading a newspaper they are pleased to read? He asked.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command has arrested the man behind the publication of Biafran Times for allegedly publishing and circulating seditious and malicious publication.

The Police Commissioner revealed that the he would be charged to court as soon as detectives finished interrogating him.
