Crisis brews South East APC Over Nnamani, As Youth Blasts Okorocha

Following the declaration of former Senate President, Sen. Ken Nnamani as Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South East by Governor of Imo State, Chief Rochas Okorocha at a meeting in Owerri on Saturday, members of the APC youth wing in the region have registered their displeasure over the development.

According to the youths, Okorocha lacks the capacity to impose a leader on the teeming members of the ruling party, adding that the party is bigger than him.

The youths also faulted the way and manner Okorocha has been governing Imo State like a family business, pointing out that the governor's selfish actions will not be tolerated in party affairs.

Speaking to a cross-section of journalists on behalf of other members after  in Owerri on Saturday, Comrade Kelvin Anyanwu noted that the expanded meeting of the South East APC was hurriedly conducted by Okorocha without consulting widely and as such was not well  attended by party stalwarts from the zone.

He said, “the so-called expanded meeting was a mere gathering of political aides and associates of Governor Okorocha.

“We had expected a proper invitation to party chieftains across Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra and Imo states.

“The meeting was not attended by party bigwigs from the zone including Minister of Labour and Productivity, Sen. Chris Ngige, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Godfrey Onyeama, Minister of Science and Technology, Chief Ogbonnaya Onu, Minister of Trade and Investment, Mr. Okechukwu Enelemah, former Governor of Old Anambra State, Chief Jim Nwobodo, former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, among others.

“It is saddening that at a time the APC is supposed to be driving membership in the region, Okorocha is rather focusing his energy on polarizing the party in order to achieve his inordinate ambition.

“The APC belongs to all party stalwarts and as such we shall not fold our arms and allow an egoistic Okorocha scuttle the future of the party in the South East.

“We also frown at the propaganda adopted by Okorocha at the yet to be concluded membership registration and re-validation in the state. Despite being in power, the governor paid lip-service to the exercise as he did not mobilize people to come out en masse to register”.

The youths while calling on the national leadership of the APC not to accept the choice of Chief Ken Nnamani  as APC leader in the South East, stressed that a widely accepted person with goodwill and large followership will naturally emerge as leader in no distant time, adding that the APC will gain ground  in the South East if only credible people are allowed to take their rightful positions in the running of the party affairs.
