Aba: Abia State Polytechnic Shuts down In Protest Over 8 Months Unpaid Salaries

There is ongoing protest at the gate of the Abia State Polytechnic, Aba following eight months unpaid salaries to the lecturers of the school.

A students who spoke to Abacityblog revealed that it has been over eight months and the salary arrears of the lecturers have not been paid to them, as the state government led by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu gave them fake promises.

According to sources who plead anonymity, Governor Ikpeazu had a couple months ago promised the lecturers that he will pay them about 4 months salary, but didn't fulfilled his promise as the salary owed to them has amounted to eight months without being paid.

"The lecturers has threatened to embark on strike about two months ago, but the governor pleaded with them to stay put, that he will pay them at least four months salary, but it has amounted to eight months without being paid, and the Xmas is around the corner as the school may close latest Friday, the governor didn't want to pay them"

"The protest is to let the public know what they (Lecturers) are passing through in the hands of this present government" he added.

Closer view at the gate of the school shows different placards that were posted at the gate, which inscription: "Pay us our salary, It's over eight months, we are not slaves". "You must pay us our 8 months salaries" etc.

Meanwhile, the security operatives are on standby to chase everybody away from the front gate of the school.

Calls put through to the Chief Press Secretary, Enyinnaya Apollos was not answered.
