Dutch Based Defender Snubs Super Eagles’ Invitation

Tyroenne Ebuehi of Dutch side, ADO Den Haag, has turned down the chance to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria against Algeria, saying the Eredivisie club remains his top priority.

Tyroenne Ebuehi
The 20-year-old right full back was among the 24-man squad Gernot Rohr invited to feature in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against the Desert Warriors on November 12.

This was the first ever national team invitation for Ebuehi.

However, the youngster who was pleased at being handed a maiden call-up to represent his fatherland told ADO Den Haag’s official website that his attention is fixed on the Holland based team as he hopes to fully settle into Željko Petrović’s side.

"I see it as a great honor that I'm noted in my homeland," Ebuehi told club official website.

"But at this moment ADO Den Haag requires my full attention. Especially now that I'm settled in the team. Therefore, now it seems to me it does not seem the right time to travel to Nigeria for the match.

“I want to focus completely on the club but I certainly do not rule out a possible next call."

Ebuehi made his Eredivisie debut in 2014, he has featured in seven of ADO Den Haag's 11 games this season, scoring once.

The decision means the Super Eagles Technical Adviser may have to call up a late replacement for Ebuehi.
