The Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has declared open, a two day meeting of the Elders and Management of the Southern Nigeria People's Assembly in the State.

He said that problems in Nigeria were as a result of lack of mutual interest among the people, saying that the foremost nationalists had mutual respect for one another and maintained that it was lack of trust that make the present statesmen to emphasize on ethnic inclinations rather than unity.
According to the Governor, the South has all it takes to drive development in the nation and assured the Assembly that he will look into her communique and engage his Southern brother Governors to support her agenda.
He recalled the contributions of Abia State in the development of Nigeria, hence the location of War museum in Abia.
In his remarks, the Coordinating Chairman, Southern People's Assembly, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, represented by Chief Mbadike Amaechi disclosed that the Assembly was in the State to discus certain critical issues affecting the Southern Nigerians.
He listed the issues to include: kidnapping, herdsmen's attacks, calls for restructuring, agitations in the Niger Delta and other agitations, collapsing economy, the ongoing war on corruption among others.
Also speaking, Chief Edwin Clark and representative of Bishop Emmanuel Bolanle, Senator Femi Okoruomu, who spoke for South South and South West respectively, lamented about the current state of the economy, called for a stop on herdsmen's attack and restructuring of the nation. He further advised President Buhari to implement the 2014 CONFAB, which they said contains all that Nigeria needs to develop.
