Among the demands include the gazzeting of the staff of the university, 2014/2015 promotion, non-payment of pension arrears, and the issue of the 2011 income tax.
When Tribune Education visited the campuses, students were seen discussing in groups over the development.
The chairman of the state chapter of ASUU, Professor Ndubuisi Idin, said that the union embarked on the strike following the failure of the management to address their demands.
“The management has not made any arrangements for the contributory pension scheme of staff. The government has not demonstrated enough political will in gazzeting the staff of the institution and other relevant laws governing the institution,” he said.
In a related development, Governor David Umahi has accused zonal and area school inspectors and education secretaries of extortion and sexual harassment in the state school system.
He warned that if the alleged acts remain unabated, he would not hesitate to sack the culprits.
