2017 GOV.Election: Anambra North Traditional Rulers Endorse Gov. Obiano For Second Term

Following the upcoming 2017 governorship election in Anambra State, traditional rulers and elders from Anambra North senatorial zone have endorsed the incumbent governor, Chief Willie Obiano, for second tenure. Governor Obiano also hail from the same senatorial zone.

In a resolution rightfully signed by 34 traditional rulers from the communities that make up the Senatorial district, including the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe, who is also the chairman of Anambra State Traditional Rulers’ Council, as well as the chairman of Anambra North Traditional Council, Igwe S.U. Nnose,  is the traditional ruler of Mmiata Anam, the royal fathers said Governor Obiano deserved re-election because of his outstanding performing in the state so far.

The Traditional rulers said that the establishment of Awka Capital Development Authority and giving the core city a face lift, and the ongoing significant structural development of the various communities, would make Anambra a pride of place when completed.

They however observed that the governor had attracted internal and external investors in the aggro-allied sector to partner with the state in investing heavily in agriculture, thereby positioning Anambra State as a potential major food basket of the South East in particular and Nigeria as a whole.

Some of the governor’s landmark projects listed by the Monarchs include: hunting down kidnappers, armed robbers and other criminals that previously gave Anambra State a bad name, which had now allowed people to sleep with both eyes closed; empowering security agencies through the purchase of sophisticated police security vehicles to monitor and control the herdsmen, as well as approving and disbursing N20 million to each of the 177 communities in the state to execute a project of their choice and ensuring that Anambra is one of the few states in the country that pays workers’ salary as and when due.

In a statement signed by the monarchs which read in parts: “After reviewing these outstanding and impressive achievements just within his first two years in office, we the Traditional Rulers from Anambra North senatorial zone of the state strongly and unreservedly feel, affirm and passionately believe that if given a chance for a second term in office, Obiano’s achievable outcome would definitely blow the minds of Ndi Anambra and that of Nigerians that such fits are possible and achievable in a nation such as Nigeria.

“Therefore, we the members of the Anambra North Council of Traditional Rulers unanimously endorse and support Chief Willie Obiano for his second term bid as the Executive Governor of Anambra State.”
